A pregnant motorcyclist died on Thursday morning (23) after being involved in a serious accident with a dump truck at the intersection of Carrera 17 and Calle 51B Sur, in the Tunjuelito region, in Bogotá, the capital of Colombia .
According to information from Colombian authorities, the victim died at the scene. Due to the force of the impact, the baby she was carrying was ejected from her body and also did not survive its injuries, dying at the scene. Witnesses reported that the truck driver was deeply shaken by the tragedy and needed assistance after the accident.
At 10:24 AM, the District Mobility Secretariat reported that the body removal work had been completed and expressed solidarity with the victim's family.
In a social media post, the agency announced that the investigation at the intersection of Carrera 17 and Calle 51B Sur, in the south-north direction, has been completed. The Secretariat of Mobility and Bogotá Transit expressed their regret over the fatality and offered their condolences to the victim's family.
The circumstances of the accident will now be investigated by Colombian traffic authorities, who will determine the causes and any potential liability for what happened.
During the morning of this Thursday, the Mobility Secretariat also registered other traffic incidents in different regions of Bogotá. Among them, an accident on Avenida Boyacá at the intersection with Avenida Calle 80, in Engativá, another on Avenida Suba at the intersection with Carrera 91, in Suba, as well as a truck stopped on Avenida Circunvalar at the intersection with Calle 85, in the north-south direction.
Finally, the District Institute for Risk Management and Climate Change warned drivers to exercise extra caution when traveling through areas affected by the rains hitting the Colombian capital.
